Gender Researcher: Hauwa’u Evelyn Yusuf

Dr. Hauwa’u Evelyn Yusuf is the CEO of the Centre for Study and Resolution of Domestic Violence in Kagoro, Kaduna State. The Centre is a product of her internships at various shelters for victims of domestic violence in Iowa, USA. She is the gender focal person of the Kaduna State University.

Dr. Yusuf was the pioneer director of the consultancy services arm of the Kaduna State University. (KASUCONSULT) and was the first academic staff to be Director Academic Planning of the University. She is published in a number of national and international journals and book chapters. Her areas of research are criminology, sociology, development and gender issues.

Dr. Hauwa’u Evelyn Yusuf has served as lead consultant for several researches conducted in collaboration with UNICEF, UNWOMEN, WOMEN FOR HEALTH (W4H) and Malaria Consortium. She is an IVLP Alumni of the United States of America and  participated in the Women In Leadership exchange programme in 2008.  She has received two grants from the US Embassy (Mitchell Obama’s Small grants 2011) and the Alumni small grants in 2013 for the empowerment of youths and indigent women in Kaduna State.

Dr.  Yusuf holds a PhD in Sociology and Anthropology from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile- Ife, Osun State with specialty in Criminology and Gender Studies. She is an Associate Professor in the department of Sociology of the Kaduna State University.

She is the current head of department of Sociology, Umar Musa Yaradua University, Katsina and  is currently working on establishment of her own shelter for victims of domestic violence.
